Birmingham designer, Mary Ruth Caldwell, was only a phone call away when long time friends, Lowell and Ken Adams decided to build a summer home in Mountain Top, outside of Cashiers, North Carolina.
Wanting to accommodate their children, grandchildren and friends, a beautiful home was designed with 4 large en suite bedrooms and an oversized grandkids bunk room. The open concept living area was designed to allow the cooks in the kitchen to be only steps away from the main living /dining area and to enjoy the beautiful vistas of the mountains. Vintage and antique furniture gives warmth and elegance, while colorful fabrics and oriental rugs complete the ambience that the Adams desire.
The 19th c Spanish style dining chairs were the perfect find (from the King’s House Antiques) for the large trestle table that opens to the screened porch. The original leather was in wonderful condition so it was only a matter of delivering these to their new home. On the wall adjacent hangs a Black Forest cuckoo clock that was brought back from a river cruise on the Rhine River that the couple enjoyed together. This home is filled with items from their many travels which makes it that much more interesting and personal. It’s a grand place to be a guest!
