Ahhhh….sweet summer. Such a special season filled with long sun-filled days, outdoor soirees, fireflies at night and a packed bag or two. Well actually, make that about a dozen or so packed bags as King’s House Antiques has enjoyed travelling quite a bit this summer! We just can’t seem to sit still as the opportunity comes knocking on our door to pop over to Europe or to South America, or even to explore a few of our favorite spots here in the U.S.!
Of course, as we have been enjoying our summer travels, we have also indulged in a little shopping too. So many treasures to see, so many things we wanted to bring home! One piece did catch our wandering eye – we practically had to do a double-take! See these pretty walnut armoires?
We found the lighter beauty sitting in an old shop in Strasbourg, exactly the same region as the darker one we currently have in the shop! Absolutely incredible craftsmanship – all pegs, no screws or nails. We think they could be long-lost sisters!
One of our tours took us through beautiful Switzerland. As we drove the winding countryside roads and marveled at the faraway pastures, we could not help but notice these sweet cows.
We saw several of them and it reminded us of the inspiration behind this painting.
And if you ever find yourself escaping to the cool mountains of Cashiers, North Carolina, you absolutely must stop by and see Francie Hargrove. Her shop is filled to the brim with adorable gifts and pretty little things to decorate your home. She also has the most fabulous cashmere wraps and you know, I just had to buy one of those!
But of course, no travel would be complete without a funny story or two. Remember the old legend about a stork delivering a baby to waiting parents? Well apparently in Alsace actual stork “couples” build a nest and return each year to lay their eggs. As such, it has become an international symbol of fidelity and we were fortunate to actually see a stork perched on its nest!
Ahhhh….long live summer and all of its glorious discoveries!
